Q: I started my business almost five years ago. I’m noticing the same pattern of heading into burnout again just like when I was in corporate. How can I break this pattern?
A: Thank you for your great question, Erica. So many entrepreneurs, business owners, leaders and professionals can relate to the very real pattern of being a perfectionist and heading into burnout, including me. I repeated this pattern many times in my career before I finally had a breakthrough.
My response will focus on making your self-care a priority. But before I share some tips, I want to talk about the importance of the mindset that leads to overworking as a prerequisite to success, wealth or achieving one’s goals.
You see, the pattern of overworking leading to burnout is really a symptom of having the mindset that “I have to work really, really hard to become abundant, wealthy, and successful”.
Does it sound familiar?
If you are holding this mindset, I invite you to examine where this belief came from. Is it from your parents, siblings, relatives, or someone else, perhaps even yourself?
If the answer is Yes, then I invite you to release this belief and/or challenge because what if you can have more abundance, wealth and success with grace and ease?
Well, it’s not only possible, In fact, it is the best way to experience the fruits and abundance of life all while having time to do what you love, and spending time with those people that you love most.
In my book, Money Manifestation & Miracles, I share the details on the steps to creating and experiencing more abundance, wealth and success in all areas of your life with grace and ease.

Often when we think of wealth, prosperity and abundance, we first think of money. And while money is definitely a key factor, there are other factors that contribute to experiencing true wealth and prosperity.
Moreover, true wealth and prosperity is really about having holistic wealth in all areas of your life.
This includes six areas — having richness of love and joy in your relationships; vitality in your health and well-being; a deep connection with Divine Source (or however you define God and Higher Power); passion for doing what you love; generating income to support your highest purpose; and enjoying a life of quality, meaning and fulfillment.
Of these six areas, the underpinning element to experiencing wealth is firstly having vitality in your health and well-being.
Let’s face it, without having vitality in your health, it’s very hard to enjoy everything else. I am referring to the following areas of health — physically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. These are the basis to enable you to create, generate and enjoy wealth and prosperity in all ways.
I was recently reminded of this very fact while in bed and feeling under the weather. My mind would race and get excited to complete something, but I just didn’t have the energy to act on it. And while we have all heard this before, it does bear repeating…Your wealth is dependent on your health.
For many leaders and entrepreneurs on a mission, we often get side-tracked from nurturing ourselves and making our own self-care a priority. This can often lead to self-blame, secret resentments and burnout.
So in the spirit of preserving your health and wealth, here are three tips and ways to honor and nurture yourself starting today. If it seems simple, well, it is. I find that it’s the simple things that we tend to forget or skip altogether.
Tip #1 — Practice being “self-full” — Commit to putting your needs first, without feeling guilty. This is a big one, especially for women as we can often put our family, children and partner ahead of ourselves.
Putting your needs first is a form of practicing being “self-full” rather than being “selfish”. When practicing this, you will benefit and so will those around you because you are operating at your best.
Tip #2 — Dissolve Self-Criticism — Be gentle, kind and patient with yourself at all times, and especially during moments of doubt, fear and change. During these moments, telling yourself that you will be okay no matter what, can make a positive difference.
Tip #3 — Take Care of Your Body — Our body is our best friend. It gives us signals through pain and discomfort. Our bodies act like sponges and react to the energy that’s around us and within us. Imagine the negative energy and stress that can accumulate and be trapped in our bodies if we don’t take time out to relax and soak in some healing energy.
So, there you have it – the 3 tips for making self-care a priority. This can help you to avoid burnout.
