I am back from an extended great staycation. Hope you also took a well-deserved break this summer.
It had been three years since I took a long stretch of time off. Wow, it was really worth it.
I fully “got” what the great genius Leonardo Da Vinci meant when he wrote…
“Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer.
Go some distance away because then the work appears smaller and more of it can be taken in at a glance and a lack of harmony and proportion is more readily seen.”
It’s incredible what new perspective can be gained by taking a pause.
In today’s newsletter, I am sharing the four key insights that I learned from taking a pause and getting back to “the basics”.
The insights below may seem obvious and common sense. They are. Yet at the same time, it is the obvious that we often miss when we are too engrossed in our work and lives, and we end up missing what’ is right in front of us.
1. Nurture your spiritual connection – the quote by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin ithat “we are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” is so profound.
While I was doing my morning meditation and gratitude practice as part of my daily routine, I realized that I was not as “connected” to Divine Source (or however you choose to call God) as before. I was too distracted.
The remedy was to stay still more and deepen my gratitude. I then noticed that I was able to freely receive the downloads of wisdom that I really needed to hear and pay attention to.
The image above is of me enjoying sitting still at the beach. The sound of the waves always puts me at ease.
2. Do only that which matters most – life really is too short, so do not waste it by doing something that you do not love. It is both soul crushing and an energy drain.
Now more than ever in the age of COVID-19, many of my clients, friends and colleagues have re-evaluated their lives and let go of things, situations and even jobs that they outgrew, but stayed out of habit.
I too let go of friends, colleagues and clients that no longer fit with who I am and where I’m going with my higher mission.
The result is that I am saying goodbye and no more often. And I’m sleeping better too.
Try it for yourself.
3. Be open to all forms of guidance – I came across books, contacts, resources, and was introduced to new colleagues while being on break. The beauty of it is that I was seeking these people and topic areas before the break. I was feeling frustrated at the time because everything seemed to take longer to put things into place.
Of course, everything came into place when I wasn’t even trying. It reminded me of how easy it can be to manifest our heart’s desires when we take our foot off the brakes.
Things, people and resources will come to you when you make the space to receive.
The lesson here is stop trying too hard and let the Universe work in your favour.
4. Prioritize self-care – our health is so precious and there is no wealth without health. I really took this to heart and had a lot of fun taking naps in the middle of the afternoon, going for long walks on the beach, and giving myself permission to enjoy not having a schedule. Total freedom.
I plan to do more this and found that I was more productive.
Well, I hope that these insights and lessons can also help you in your life, business and work.
Until next time, be well and stay safe.
